Bawumia sets campaign in motion

Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia has given the clearest indication of how vigorously he has planned to prosecute his campaign for the presidential slot of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Soon after filing his nomination forms on Friday, an event which attracted massive support and solidarity from NPP members, including Members of Parliament, Dr Bawumia wasted no time in hitting the grounds running with campaign visits to some constituencies.

Among the constituencies he visited included Ada, Kpone Katamanso, La Dade Kotopon, Sege, Ashaiman, Odododiodio, Ayawaso East, Tema East, Tema Central, Tema West among others, all in the Greater Accra Region.

He was received by enthusiastic and excited party members and supporters who expressed massive support for his candidature.

Interacting with delegates in the various constituencies, Dr Bawumia urged them to support his candidature, and vote massively for him to lead the party into the crucial 2024 general elections.

The Vice-President said he had worked hard in both private and public life to attain the current position he occupies in the scheme of affairs of the NPP and the country as a whole.

Own vision

In an earlier address, just after filing his nomination, Dr Bawumia declared that he has his own vision for Ghana, which is to see the country leverage technology, data and systems for inclusive economic growth.

“I also have my own vision for Ghana. I believe that it is time to move Ghana to the next level by building on the foundations we have put in place so far. Together with you, I want to see a Ghana where we leverage technology, data and systems for inclusive economic growth. I want to make Ghana the digital hub of Africa. I want us to bridge the digital divide and apply digital technology and artificial intelligence for the transformation of healthcare, education, and public service delivery amongst others,” he said.

While stating his desire to see Ghana become a nation that caters for the poor, support local businesses and build industries for economic growth, he added that there is a lot more the nation can do to attain its desired status.

“Over the last 22 years, I have worked hard with you for the NPP and for Ghana from during the Kufuor era as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, through our years in opposition and now in government. During this period, I have sacrificed for the party, I have defended the party in good times and in challenging times, I have never wavered nor slacked. Never! and I have built a solid track record of performance as Vice President and unflinching loyalty to our party and government through rain or shine,” he declared.

Victory

The Vice-President also predicted victory for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 polls, saying it is major step to retaining power in the 2024 polls.

“I have just filed my nomination forms to contest as flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party for the 2024 presidential elections. I believe this is the first step to our victory in 2024, by the Grace of God,” he declared on Friday June 16, 2023.

According to him, he has, for over two decades, worked for both the NPP and Ghana, both in opposition and in government, rubbishing claims of doubts about his loyalty.

Outlining what he has in store for the country, the Vice-President stated: “I have a compelling vision for Ghana’s future. It is possible for Ghana to be like the advanced nations if we put our minds and energies to it. With the technologies available, the new ones that are emerging, and a renewed mindset, we can leapfrog impossibilities and make the unimaginable possible. It is possible to break the eight, in order to continue with the transformational policies, we have started. It is possible!”

Sacrifice

The Vice-President also recounted his unwavering sacrifices and defence of the New Patriotic Party which had resulted in securing a solid foundation for the party.

Never! and I have built a solid track record of performance as Vice President and unflinching loyalty to our party and government through rain or shine,” he stated.

The Vice-President appealed to the rank and file of the party to give him the support he needs to make the dream of the party winning the next election a reality.
