The Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Saturday morning brought Kwahu to a standstill as thousands of people joined him for a massive walk as part of the Easter celebration.
As he walked through the streets, Dr. Bawumia was greeted by enthusiastic crowds who came out to show their support for his message. Many participants carried banners and posters with slogans promoting his agenda.
The party members, mostly, from the 33 constituencies in the region were clad in the party’s colours and paraphernalia and danced to blazing brass bands and ‘game songs’ as the procession passed through the various streets to their destination point.
The mega health walk which took off from Kwahu Bepong and ended at Mpraeso was dubbed: “Let’s arise and build Ghana together (Nehemiah 2;18) saw numerous of the NPP Members holding placards bearing inscriptions such as “It is possible to break the 8”, “Unity is key”, “No more dumsor”, “One constituency”, “One ambulance”, Teacher trainees allowance paid”, “I am for Dr. Bawumia because of the universal or code payment system”, and “NPP is the best”, among others.
At Mpreaso – Kwahu where a mini durbar was held, the Vice President urged the party members to rally behind the government to preach the good policies, it has implemented.
‘Breaking the 8’
Dr Bawumia indicated that the NPP has what it takes to win the 2024 general elections. He said this based on the fact that, the ruling party has delivered on its major promises and can even do more if re-elected for a record third consecutive term.
In emphasising his point, Vice President Bawumia jabbed former President John Mahama for touting himself as the “infrastructure king” of Ghana.
Dr Bawumia said Akufo-Addo’s first four years saw more infrastructural developments nationwide, on top of unparalleled social interventions, making it odd to appreciate the claims by the former President.
The Vice-President told the excited crowd that they should prepare to go out there proudly next year to campaign to “break the 8” because the Akufo-Addo administration has offered them a strong record of delivery, probably unmatched in the history of the Fourth Republic.
Promises delivered
“If you look at the infrastructure of the country, particularly, roads, it is clear that no government in the history of Ghana has been able to construct as many roads as has been executed by the current NPP government.
“On interchanges, the evidence available to Ghanaians is that no government in our history has delivered the number of interchanges that the Akufo-Addo government has built within its term in office. If you look at bridges, it is the same and if you look at classrooms, 5,411 have been built. No government in our history has built more classrooms than the NPP,” he stressed.
Sports facilities
Touching on the sports sector, the Vice President observed that when the Akufo-Addo government first assumed office in 2017, there were only 2 astroturf pitches in the country. “Today, there are over 80 of them and virtually every constituency in the country has one,” he stated.
On National Communication Authority (NCA) licensed fiber optic cable installations across the country, Dr Bawumia noted that 93% of the existing infrastructure in the nation as at now were installed during the time of the Akufo-Addo government.
Digitalisation
He stated that the ongoing efforts aimed at digitalising the country is transforming the Ghanaian society and bringing greater efficiency.
He noted that in spite of the skeptism of the NDC on the introduction of the ‘Ghana Card’, the National Identification Authority (NIA) has executed it and over 17 million Ghanaians have successfully registered.
“Today, Ghanaians traveling from any part of the world to Ghana can use their Ghana Card to return home without any hindrance,” Dr Bawumia added.
