ECG begins ‘operation zero’ tomorrow

Ghana’s power distributor, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has described the upcoming three-month “Operation Zero” revenue mobilization exercise.
The exercise begins tomorrow July 11, 2023.

The objective of this exercise is to recover outstanding payments for electricity bills from consumers.
With the assistance of security agencies, ECG aims to apprehend and prosecute any customers who attempt to interfere with the exercise.

In a statement issued on July 4, 2023, the power distributor mentioned that during “Operation Zero,” ECG staff will visit households to identify and bill consumers who are not currently in their database.

This will be done instantly through the ECG digital customer platform. To ensure fairness, ECG will grant a moratorium to all individuals consuming electricity without making payments.

This will allow them the opportunity to visit their respective ECG offices to immediately regularize their supply. ECG is also requesting customers who have not yet received their bills to make payments in advance, which will be credited accordingly.

The exercise

Recognizing the significance of the exercise, ECG will operate its regional and district offices with a lean staff pool.

This arrangement will ensure that essential services are provided to customers, while also allowing for the full participation of top management and staff.

The Operation Zero exercise is an important step for ECG in recovering outstanding payments for electricity bills.

With the support of security agencies and the cooperation of customers, ECG aims to ensure a fair and efficient process throughout the three-month period.
