President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has tasked the newly appointed board of trustees of the Head of State Award Scheme (HSAS) with providing the scheme with the correct direction and mobilising the necessary funds to ensure seamless functioning.
The board is made up of its chairman, Mr Harry Sintim Aboagye. Other members are Mrs Gladys Amoah, the vice chairperson, and Mr Kwadwo Addeah-Safo, secretary to the board.
The rest of the trustees are Mr Daniel A. Adotey, Hajia Muniratu Lamptey, Ms Juliet Yayra Tengeh, Ohenewaa Sakyi Bekoe, Pius Hadzide, CEO of the National Youth Authority (NYA), Peter Anum, Executive Director of HSAS, and Mrs Gifty Sakyi Bewusu.
Swearing in the new Board during a brief ceremony at the Jubilee House on Friday, President Akufo-Addo noted that the Board, having assumed office, must ensure that the ongoing construction of the award house in Accra which is the first of its kind on the continent and beyond, is completed and out to full use by the award scheme.
“As some of you may know, the Secretariat is constructing an award house, the first of its kind in the award community globally. You are also required as trustees to see to its completion,” President Akufo-Addo said.
Patron’s support
In his address, President Akufo-Addo assured the board of trustees of his government’s support, especially in the area of their finances, to position the award scheme to attract more young people.
“You can, however, be assured that the government of your chief patron, that is, myself in case anyone does not know it, will continue to support the scheme to help create avenues that will enable our youth to explore, be Innovative and use creative ways to solving societal problems to ensure the development of this nation,” he said.
“Government will continue to provide adequate financial resources to enable the scheme to reach out to more young people in the country,” President Akufo-Addo noted.
Commitment
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mr Harry Sintim Aboagye, on behalf of his colleague board members, assured the President that they will work to the best of their abilities and trust God to enable them to exceed the expectations of the President.
“The awards scheme is a fantastic programme, carefully designed to empower young people, giving them the opportunity to surmount the myriad of challenges” Mr Aboagye said.
“By encouraging young people to learn new skills, get physically active, volunteer within their communities and discover a sense of adventure outside the classroom, the awards scheme helps them to unlock their potential.
“As trustees, we are committed to this cause for the future sustenance of our country,” the HSAS board chairman, Mr Sintim Aboagye, added.
